Described by Army West Point head coach Jeff Monken as “a team player who demands excellence and leads with honor,” Leo Lowin has carved out a legacy on the field and in the classroom that places him among the nation’s top scholar-athletes. The Austin, Texas, native now becomes the Black Knights’ 17th NFF National Scholar-Athlete, including 2011 Campbell Trophy® winner Andrew Rodriguez.

Named a CSC Second Team Academic All-American in 2022, Lowin has made the Dean’s list every semester. An engineering management major, he has maintained a 3.92 GPA while balancing the rigors of the Military Academy.

Lowin has led the Army to two postseason berths, including a win in the 2021 Armed Forces Bowl and an appearance in the 2020 Liberty Bowl. The Armed Force Bowl victory, a 24-22 triumph over Missouri, marked the Black Knights’ first win against an SEC team since 2009 and capped a 9-4 season.

A 2023 team captain, Lowin is a three-year letterman, and he was named a Second Team Phil Steele Postseason All-Independent in 2022. He was named the 2022 Army-Navy Player of the Game after posting a career-high 16 tackles in Black Knights’ double overtime win against the Midshipmen last season.

He entered the 2023 season with 143 career tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, four pass breakups and one forced fumble. He tallied 100 tackles in 2022, becoming the first Army player since 2019 to hit triple digits in a single season, and he was one of only three FBS players to have more than 100 tackles as well as more than three sacks and two interceptions last year. He has added 46 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to his career statistics in 2023.

In the community, Lowin helped plan and coordinate a partnership with Team IMPACT, a national non-profit that matches children facing serious health issues with college athletic teams, signing them as an honorary member of the team. In the Corps of Cadets, he is a member of the Battalion S2.
