Ladd McConkey’s superior work ethic, natural speed and overall character has helped Georgia win back-to-back national championships as he has excelled in the classroom with an impressive 3.85 GPA. The Chatsworth, Georgia, native now becomes the Bulldog’s 15th NFF National Scholar-Athlete, including 1998 Campbell Trophy® winner Matt Stinchcomb.
A 2022 CSC Academic All-District selection and a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, McConkey graduated magna cum laude in three years from UGA’s Terry College of Business, and he is currently working towards a certificate in entrepreneurship. Named to the Gridiron Honorary Society, he has made the UGA Athletics Director’s Honor Roll every semester and the Dean’s List.
McConkey made major contributions in Georgia becoming the first team in the College Football Playoff (CFP) era to win back-to-back national titles. In the 2022 title run, McConkey had one carry for 14 yards and five receptions for a combined 88 yards and two touchdowns in CFP National Championship win over TCU.
A two-year letterman who has served as a game captain, McConkey earned Second Team All-SEC honors in 2022 and SEC All-Freshman honors in 2021. His 2021 performance against Auburn, including five receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown, landed him SEC Freshman of the Week honors in 2021.
Entering the 2023 season, McConkey had amassed 89 receptions for 1,209 yards and 12 touchdowns as well as 11 carries for 178 yards and another three touchdowns. He returned 21 punts for 279 yards, averaging 13.3 yards per return. Fighting an injury throughout the first few weeks of this season, McConkey re-entered the line-up in Week 5, posting nine receptions for 107 yards with four of his catches for pivotal third down conversions during the past three weeks.
A member of the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, McConkey visited the Camp Rainbow for children with cancer, the Elks Aidmore foster care center and the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. His extensive list of volunteer work also includes Read Across America, the local food bank and the Athens Homeless Shelter.
