A three-year starter at nose tackle for College Football Hall of Fame coach Lloyd Carr at Michigan, Rob Renes led the Wolverines to a 32-5 record, two Big Ten titles and a national championship in 1997 after a perfect 12-0 season culminated with a 21-16 victory over Washington State in the Rose Bowl. He earned First Team All-America and First Team All-Big Ten honors after registering 46 total tackles, five tackles for loss and a sack in 1999. A two-time recipient of the Dick Katcher Award as the team’s most outstanding defensive lineman/linebacker, Renes made 151 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and five sacks in his career.

A two-time Academic All-American and four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, he twice received the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award and the Dr. Arthur D. Robinson Scholarship Award as the team’s top scholar-athlete. Renes was selected in the seventh round (235th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts but never played a game in the NFL. He earned his master’s in educational leadership from Western Michigan in 2007 and is currently the assistant superintendent for the Reeths-Puffer Schools in Muskegon, Mich.
