A three-year starter on College Football Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry’s offensive line, center Derek Rose played guard on the 1996 Alamo Bowl champion Hawkeyes before making the switch to center. A Second Team All-Big Ten selection in 1997, he was named a co-captain for the 1998 season. The 1998 team MVP, Rose was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game.  A four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, he compiled a 3.9 GPA in economics and political science and made the President’s List six semesters. Rose volunteered as a youth counselor and made frequent visits to area hospitals. He is currently the regional vice president of sales for RL Solutions, a healthcare software development company.
