The brother of 1993 National Scholar-Athlete Tim Benson, Malcolm Benson joins his sibling in the Hampton football record book, ranking third in career rushing touchdowns (33) and career total touchdowns (35) and ninth in single-season rushing touchdowns (13). The team leader in scoring in 1994 (78) and 1995 (62), he ranks fourth in career scoring (212). A four-year letterman at running back and two-year captain, Malcolm helped the Pirates to a 39-7-1 record, an appearance in the 1993 Division II Quarterfinals and a Black College National Championship in 1994. Compiling a 3.4 GPA in electrical engineering, he was a member of the Society of Black Engineers and served as captain of a mentorship program called “Operation Think Smart.” Benson earned his master’s in electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Tech in 2000 and is currently a cell implementation engineer for Verizon Wireless in Atlanta. He is also the owner of mtminddesign.com, a provider of quality graphic and web designs for non-profits, small businesses and start-up companies.
