A four-year starter at quarterback for New Mexico, Stoney Case was a two-time team captain and team MVP. The team leader in passing all four years, he holds school records for single-game completion percentage (80), career passing yards (9,460), single-game passing touchdowns (6) and career passing touchdowns (67). A First Team All-WAC selection in 1994, Case was also recognized by the conference as the player of the year, the scholar-athlete of the year and the male athlete of the year. The team leader in total offense all four years, he also holds school records for single-game rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (4), single-season rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (14), career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (31), single-game total plays (77), single-season total offense (3,649), career total offense (10,651), single-season touchdowns responsible for (33) and career touchdowns responsible for (98). Selected to participate in the Blue-Gray Game, Case ranked third in the country in total offense per game (304.1) in 1994. A two-time Academic All-WAC selection, he compiled a 3.3 GPA in biology and communications and spent the summer before his senior year at New Mexico’s medical school conducting research on Reye’s Syndrome.
Case was selected in the third round (80th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals and played two seasons with the Cardinals and one season each with the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions. He finished his career with 163-of-318 passes completed for 1,826 yards and four touchdowns along with 60 carries for 270 yards and five touchdowns. Case also played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Storm and San Jose SaberCats in the Arena Football League, completing 53-of-81 passes for 581 yards and nine touchdowns. He is currently the CEO of Hunting Republic, a hunting apparel company.
