A three-year letterman at guard for Nebraska, Randy Schleusener became one of the most famous offensive guards in college football after scoring a touchdown in a 17-14 loss to Oklahoma in 1979.  It came in the fourth quarter with 4:43 left to play, when center Kelly Saalfeld snapped the ball to quarterback Jeff Quinn, who deliberately dropped the ball on the ground for Schleusener to pick up, now commonly known as the “Fumblerooski.”

He helped the Cornhuskers to a 29-7 record, three bowl appearances, a Big 8 title and a Sun Bowl victory under College Football Hall of Fame head coach Tom Osborne. A First Team All-American, Schleusener was a two-time All-Big 8 selection and the recipient of the Optimist Award. A two-time First Team Academic All-American and First Team All-Big 8, he compiled a 3.9 GPA as a pre-med student.

Schleusener was selected in the ninth round (244th overall) of the 1981 NFL Draft, but he decided to return to Nebraska to earn his M.D. He completed his internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1987 and his residency at multiple Dallas hospitals in 1991. After completing a fellowship at the Syracuse University Medical Center in 1992, Schleusener began practicing at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center in Rapid City, S.D.
