Compiling a 3.8 GPA as a pre-med student at Penn State, defensive back John Walsh was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma and Golden Key. He was a four-year letterman under College Football Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno. The recipient of the Ridge Riley Award, which honors a senior for sportsmanship, scholarship, leadership and friendship, he served as a student advisor in the College of Liberal Arts, a volunteer at Mountain View Hospital and a counselor at a Catholic Youth Organization Camp. Walsh earned his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University and completed his internship at the University of Minnesota Hospital. After completing a fellowship at the University of Michigan, he became a doctor at Huron Gastro Center for Digestive Care in Ann Arbor, Mich.
