A four-year starter at defensive tackle for Stanford, John Bergren was one of the leading tacklers for College Football Hall of Famer-turned-coach Paul Wiggins, recording a career-high 13 in a 41-21 loss to USC in 1982. One of Stanford’s NCAA Volunteers for Youth, he was a member of the Lutheran Church Council and Tau Beta Phi. A three-time First Team Academic All-American, Bergren maintained a 3.54 GPA in chemical engineering. He earned his M.D. from the University of California-San Diego Medical School in 1991 and is currently a primary care physician for Dignity Health Medical Group in Boulder Creek, Calif.
