A four-year letterman at linebacker under College Football Hall of Fame coach Pat Dye for Auburn, Gregg Carr was the team leader in tackles in 1982 (125) and 1983 (136). The 1984 SEC Lineman of the Year, he helped the Tigers to a 34-14 record, a SEC title and victories in the 1982 Tangerine Bowl, the 1984 Sugar Bowl and the 1984 Liberty Bowl. An All-America and two-time All-SEC selection, Carr ranks second in school history in career total tackles (453) and eighth in single-season total tackles (139). Boasting a 3.22 GPA in engineering, he was a member of Spades, an honorary comprised of Auburn’s top ten all-around students.

Carr was drafted in the sixth round (160th overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and played four seasons with the Steelers from 1985-88. He accumulated 7.5 sacks and recorded an interception in 57 NFL games. Carr graduated from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine in 1994 and is currently an orthopedic surgeon at Brookwood Medical Center, in Birmingham. He was selected as a 2010 recipient of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award and was inducted into the State of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
