A three-year letterman at outside linebacker for SMU, Monte Goen helped the Mustangs to a 26-9 record, a SWC title and a 27-20 win over Notre Dame in the 1984 Aloha Bowl. He recorded 109 tackles and seven sacks in three seasons and also contributed on special teams. Compiling a 3.71 GPA in biology, Goen made the Dean’s List five semesters and was an Academic All-American.  He earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1990, and is currently a psychiatry doctor in Dallas, Texas.
