A First Team Academic All-American and two-time member of the SEC Honor Roll, Florida receiver Gary Rolle compiled a 3.68 GPA in zoology and received the Walter Matherly Award for the highest GPA and the Fergie Ferguson Award, given to the senior football player who displays outstanding leadership, character and courage. A three-year letterman, he helped the Gators to a 26-7-2 record and a 14-6 win over Iowa in the 1983 Gator Bowl. Rolle graduated from R.O.T.C. Advanced Camp in the nation’s top 10 percent and was named Outstanding Army Cadet at Florida. Elected to the Student Senate, he also served as Dorm Council Chairman and was a member of Blue Key, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Kappa Alpha Psi. Rolle was selected in the 11th round (306th overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos but enrolled in the College of Medicine at Florida instead. He completed his residency at the Ochsner Medical Foundation in Jefferson, La., and a fellowship in sports medicine at Florida. Rolle joined Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic in 1997 and specializes in knee surgery and sports medicine.
