A three-year letterman for College Football Hall of Fame head coach Tom Osborne at Nebraska, Scott Strasburger helped the Cornhuskers to a 34-4 record, three Big 8 titles and victories in the 1983 Orange Bowl and 1985 Sugar Bowl. Boasting a 3.82 GPA in life science, he was a two-time First Team Academic All-American and made the Dean’s List every year. An active member of the Mortar Board Honor Society, Strasburger frequently spoke to elementary and high school students about athletics and academics. A consensus All-Big Eight choice in his senior year, Strasburger led the Huskers in lost yardage by dropping opposing ball carriers for minus-66 yards on the year and set a school record for passes broken up by a lineman (7). In 1983, he was third among defensive linemen in total tackles (42) and led the team in fumble recoveries (2) and pass breakups by a lineman (3).
Strasburger was selected in the 10th round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys but opted to return to the University of Nebraska to pursue his medical degree. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee in 1995 and his fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute (Ala.) in 1996. Strasburger is an orthopedic surgeon at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb. In 2005, he was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
