A two-time First Team Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Michigan State safety Dean Altobelli was a member of the mechanical engineering honors program and received the Potsy Ross Award as the team’s top scholar-athlete. He also received the Big Ten Medal of Honor. He ran for 88 yards on 21 carries as a running back his freshman year and recorded three interceptions in three years at safety. Altobelli served as president of the Varsity S Club and received the Toyota Leadership Award in 1986. After a legal career that lasted two decades, he now serves as a defensive analyst on the University of Alabama’s coaching staff.
