Named the 1986 Lone Star Conference Back of the Year, West Texas A&M quarterback Tod Mayfield led the conference with 3,664 passing yards and helped the Buffalos to a Lone Star Conference title. A Third Team Little All-American, he set the school record for plays in a game (72) and ranks sixth in school history in career total offense (7,342) and career passing yards (7,424). The team leader in passing yards in 1985 (3,432) and 1986 (3,664), Mayfield also led the team with 31 passing touchdowns. He earned his J.D. from Texas Tech in 1993 and is currently an attorney for Mayfield Law Firm, LLP, in Amarillo, Texas. In 1993, Mayfield was inducted into the West Texas A&M Hall of Champions.
