A four-year letterman at defensive back for Furman, Steve Squire helped the Paladins to a 37-10-3 record, two Southern Conference titles and two appearances in the Division I-AA Playoffs. He recorded 35 tackles in three Division I-AA Playoff games, including 10 in the 1985 National Championship. Named the school’s most outstanding freshman in 1983 and defensive back in 1986, Squire recorded 208 career total tackles and 11 interceptions. A two-time First Team All-Southern Conference and First Team All-South Carolina selection, he led the team in fumble recoveries (3) in 1986.
