The Washington and Lee (Va.) record holder for single-game pass attempts (52), quarterback Jon Thornton ranks seventh in career passing yards (3,538) and threw 23 touchdown passes. He led the Generals to a 7-2 record and an Old Dominion Athletic Conference title. The recipient of the Doc Jopson Award as the conference’s top male scholar-athlete, Thornton graduated summa cum laude and earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School. Following a judicial clerkship with U.S. District Judge John A. McKenzie, Thornton practiced law for six years with the largest law firm in southeastern Virginia where he handled primarily personal injury cases and business litigation. In 1997, he co-founded Pierce & Thornton, PLC, a law firm in Norfolk, Va.
