A starting center at LSU for four years, Ignazio “Nacho” Albergamo, M.D. helped the Tigers to a 36-9-3 record and a victory in the 1987 Gator Bowl. He paved the way for an LSU offense that recorded a school record 4,843 yards in 1987 and the Tigers enjoyed their winningest season in more than 25 years, finishing 10-1-1 after a 30-13 win over South Carolina. A First Team All-America and All-SEC selection, Dr. Albergamo was named the Toyota Leader of the Year. The two-time Second Team Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-SEC selection compiled a 3.4 GPA as a pre-med and zoology major.

Albergamo earned his M.D. from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1993, and he completed his internship and residency at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in Jefferson, La. He currently specializes in internal medicine at The Baton Rouge Clinic AMC in Baton Rouge, La. In 2007, he was inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
