An Honorable Mention All-American and First Team All-Ivy League selection, Brown center John Cuozzo Jr. received the Broomhead Memorial Trophy given to the football player whose continuous and generous contributions to Brown athletics and loyal devotion to his university promise to make him an ambassador of Brown in the tradition of Fred Broomhead. A First Team Academic All-American, he compiled a 3.7 GPA in biophysics and received the Class of 1910 Football Trophy for having the highest GPA on the team. Cuozzo served as the president of the Campus Crusade for Christ and as coordinator of the Athletic Peer Counselors.
Cuozzo received his Ph.D. in cellular and molecular physiology at Tufts University (Mass.) After completing his post-doctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he joined the Inflammation Signaling Department at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals before becoming the Director of Lead Discovery at Praecis Pharmaceuticals, later acquired by GlaxoSmithKline. Cuozzo led the efforts to develop novel biochemical and cell-based assay platforms for metabolic disease as Director of Biology at Syndexa Pharmaceuticals. He is currently the Vice President of Discovery Technologies at Relay Therapeutics in the greater Boston area.
