A two-time Honorable Mention All-Big 8 selection, Nebraska defensive back and co-captain Mark Blazek recorded 112 tackles and eight interceptions in his Cornhusker career. A three-year letterman for College Football Hall of Fame coach Tom Osborne, he helped Nebraska to a 31-6 record, a Big 8 title and a victory in the 1986 Sugar Bowl. The recipient of the 1988 Toyota Leadership Award, Blazek was a two-time First Team Academic All-American and two-time Academic All-Big 8 selection. Boasting a 3.96 GPA in social science, he was an honorary member of Phi Lambda Theta and an officer in the Mortar Board. After earning his J.D. from Nebraska, Blazek returned to his hometown of Valparaiso, Neb., and took a position as a senior vice president of Oak Creek Valley Bank.
