A 1988 Honorable Mention All-East defensive back, Army’s Michael Thorson was second on the team with three interceptions, helping College Football Hall of Fame coach Jim Young’s Cadets to a 9-3 record and a Sun Bowl appearance. He finished with five career interceptions. The 1989 Academic All-American of the Year, Thorson attained a near-perfect GPA (3.995) in economics and was a member of the Dean’s List every semester. The recipient of the College Achievement Award from Time-Life Magazine and the Gold Star for Distinguished Cadet, he was awarded a Marshall Scholarship to the University of Oxford. Thorson earned his master’s in economics and politics in 1992 and spent four years as a lieutenant of infantry in the U.S. Army. He is the founder and managing director of Inventure Capital, a boutique investment fund with a portfolio of assets including multi-family apartment development, real estate subdivision and early stage technology investments, in Madison, Wis. An avid supporter of the community, he is a member of the Golden Angels Network, the Wisconsin Angel Network, the Wisconsin History Center and Downton Madison, Inc.
