A Rhodes Scholar nominee, McElroy is a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree. The Southlake, Texas, resident has qualified for the Dean's List four times and the President's List twice. McElroy was drafted in the seventh round (208th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and appeared in two games for the Jets in 2012, throwing for 214 yards and a touchdown.
