The only quarterback in Ohio State history with three seasons of 2,000 passing yards, co-captain Greg Frey ranks third in school history in single-game passing yards (362), career pass attempts (835), career pass completions (443) and career 200+ yard passing games (13); fourth in career passing yards (6,316); sixth in career touchdown passes (37), single-season 200+ passing yard games (5) and career total offense (6,098); ninth in single-season pass attempts (293) and 200+ yard total offense games (11); 10th in single-season passing yards (2,132), single-game pass completions (24), single-season touchdown passes (16), career pass efficiency (121.8) and career touchdowns responsible for (43); and 12th in single-season pass efficiency (142.2) and career wins (19). The team leader in total offense in 1988, 1989 and 1990, he led College Football Hall of Fame coach John Cooper’s Buckeyes to a 19-14-2 record and appearances in the 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl and 1990 Liberty Bowl.
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Frey compiled a 3.8 GPA in English and military history and made the Dean’s List four times. He went on to play one season with the Cleveland Thunderbolts of the Arena Football League, completing 92-of-197 passes for 1,077 yards and 22 touchdowns. Frey spent three years as the offensive coordinator for Pickerington North High School (Ohio) and currently offers private coaching services for local high school quarterbacks. Frey also serves as a commentator for broadcasts of Columbus Destroyers (AFL) and local Ohio high school football games.
