A two-year starter at tight end under College Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Snyder at Kansas State, Russ Campbell caught 67 passes for 1,150 yards, ranking fifth in school history with an average of 17.16 yards per catch. A co-captain of the 1991 Wildcats, Campbell caught 32 passes for 595 yards and two touchdowns while helping Kansas State to its winningest season since 1954. An East-West Shrine Game participant, he led the Big 8 in yards per catch in 1991 (18.6). A four-time First Team Academic All-Big 8 selection, Campbell compiled a 3.5 GPA in secondary math education and was a two-time recipient of the K-State Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award. He was selected in the seventh round (179th overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and saw limited time in his one season in the NFL.
