A four-year starter at quarterback for Virginia Tech, Will Furrer was the team leader in passing and total offense every year and ranks fifth in school history in career passing yards (5,915) and sixth in career total offense (5,782). After throwing for a school-record 19 touchdowns in 1990, he was named the team MVP. Earning Second Team All-Big East honors in 1991, Furrer ranked in the top five of the conference in completions (148), pass attempts (257), completion percentage (57.6), passing yards per attempt (7.1), passing touchdowns (15), pass efficiency (123.9) and total yards (1,849). He finished his career with 494-of-920 passes completed for 5,915 yards and 43 touchdowns. Compiling a 3.27 GPA in English, Furrer made the Dean’s List six times and won the John William Schneider Award as the team’s top scholar-athlete.
Furrer was selected in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears and saw limited action in his one season with the Bears. Furrer played one season with the Houston Oilers in 1995, throwing for 483 yards and two touchdowns. He finished his professional football career with two seasons in the World Football League on the Amsterdam Admirals. Furrer earned All-World League honors in 1996 after throwing for 2,689 yards and 20 touchdowns. He is currently the senior vice president of product for Q2 Holdings in Austin, Texas, which offers virtual banking software on a single platform for regional and community financial institutions. Furrer was elected to the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
