A four-year starter at quarterback under College Football Hall of Fame coach Jerry Moore at Appalachian State, D.J. Campbell was the Mountaineers leader in passing and total offense all four years. He led the team to a 30-17 record, a Southern Conference title and three appearances in the Division I-AA Playoffs. Campbell ranks fourth in school history in career pass completions (476), fifth in career total offense (6,182) and sixth in career passing yards (5,414). A First Team Academic All-American, he compiled a 3.68 GPA in biology and pre-med and made the Dean’s List every semester. Campbell earned his M.D. from Mercer University in 1999 and completed his residency at the University of Tennessee in 2005. After a fellowship at Vanderbilt University, he joined the Aesthetic Center of Gainesville and Braselton (Ga.) as a plastic surgeon.
