A four-time performer at defensive tackle for Michigan, Chris Hutchinson helped the Wolverines to a 38-7-3 record, four consecutive Big Ten titles and a victory in the 1993 Rose Bowl. His laundry list of honors include the John F. Maulbetsch Award as the team’s most outstanding freshman, the Meyer Morton Award as the team’s most improved player from spring practice, the Dick Katcher Award as the team’s most outstanding defensive lineman/linebacker and the Bo Schembechler Award as the team’s MVP. A co-captain of the 1992 Wolverines, Hutchinson was named the Big Ten Lineman of the Year after leading the team with 11 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
An All-American and two-time All-Big Ten selection, Hutchinson ranks second in school history in single-season sacks (11) and single-season sack yardage (99); fourth in career sacks (24); fifth in career sack yardage (188); sixth in career tackles for loss yards (221); seventh in single-season tackles for loss yards (103); and 13th in career tackles for loss (38). A Second Team Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, he compiled a 3.32 GPA in movement science and kinesiology and was a three-time recipient of the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award. Hutchinson earned his M.D. from Michigan in 1997 and completed his residency at the William Beaumont Emergency Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. He is currently an emergency room doctor for the Beaumont Health System.
