A four-year standout for NFF Northeast Regional Coordinator and coach Howie Vandersea at Bowdoin College (Maine), safety Mike Turmelle was a First Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference selection and received the team’s Winslow R. Howland Trophy as the most improved player. Compiling a 3.75 GPA in biochemistry, he received the school’s Kamerling Laboratory Award. Turmelle earned his M.D. at Johns Hopkins University in 1998 and completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts in 2001. He is currently an associate professor of pediatrics, the co-division director of Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine and the medical director of the Children's Direct Transfer Center at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. In 2008, Turmelle received the NFF Chapter Leadership Award.
