A 6-foot-4, 220-pound end for Army, Samuel Champi recorded more playing time than any other Cadet in 1964 and 1965. He caught 49 passes for 645 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons, and he appeared in the 1965 North-South Shrine Game. He was on every dean’s list during his time at West Point, and he was designated as “Distinguished Cadet” for being in the top five percent of his class. Champi was a member of the Catholic Choir, the Spanish Club, and he was on the advertising staff of the yearbook. After serving in the Vietnam War, he returned to Vietnam decades later as a contractor to build low-cost apartments.
