Robert Etter was the SEC’s leading scorer as Georgia’s kicker in 1966 with 57 points. The Signal Mountain, Tenn., native compiled a 91 GPA in mathematics and physics. He was on the Dean’s List for nine quarters, in the top five percent of his freshman class and in the top ten percent of his sophomore and junior classes.

Etter served as student body vice president, and he was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Blue Key Society, X Club, Gridiron Honor Society and Student Government Cabinet. He was the leading scorer in 1965 as well, booting 16 extra points and 10 field goals. Etter was a two-time Academic All-America and three-time Academic All-SEC selection. The 1966 Bulldogs were SEC Champions, finishing 10-1 after a win over SMU in the Cotton Bowl.

Etter played two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, converting 26-of-51 field goals and 50-of-52 extra points. He was selected to play in the 1970 Pro Bowl. In 2002, he was elected into the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame.

Etter is an American Contract Bridge League Grand Life Master. With nearly 19,000 lifetime masterpoints as of February 2015, he ranks 118th and about 90th among living Grand Masters. Etter won the North American Bridge Championship in 1981 and 1998. He taught mathematics at California State University, Sacramento until retirement.
