S. Stanley Juk

A 6-foot-2, 210-pound defensive back, Stan Juk was a three-year letterman for South Carolina. He led the team with three interceptions in 1966, and he was a three-time Academic All-ACC selection. Juk served as senior class president, president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and president of Kappa Sigma Kappa service fraternity. He was a member of Blue Key and the Sigma Nu social fraternity.

Juk received the Thomas Moore Craig Leadership Award, and he compiled a 3.7 GPA in chemistry and mathematics. He was credited with 85 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery in his junior season.

Selected by the Miami Dolphins in the twelfth round (294th pick overall) of the 1967 NFL Draft as a linebacker, Juk turned down the opportunity to play professional football to pursue a medical degree at Duke University. Juk has more than 30 years of cardiology experience and practices in Columbia, S.C.

He has served as chief of staff at Providence Hospital and as president and vice president of the South Carolina American Heart Association chapter. Dr. Juk’s clinical research is published in many journals, including The Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association, Emergency Medicine and The American Journal of Cardiology. He is currently a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, the Medical Society of Columbia and the American Heart Association.
