A Chagrin Falls, Ohio, native, Barry Furst was a standout end at Ohio Wesleyan for four seasons. Compiling a 3.79 GPA, he was a near unanimous choice of the faculty for a Rhodes Scholar nomination. Furst was the president of ODK, a student dormitory counselor and a member of the Athletic Board of Control. He was the recipient of the school’s Proctor & Gamble Scholarship.

A three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Furst finished his junior season with a school-record four-touchdown performance against Otterbein. A co-captain of the 1967 team, he helped the Battling Bishops to an undefeated season and an OAC title.

Furst was inducted into the Ohio Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame in 1979. He went to Case Western Reserve University Medical School, and he specializes in internal medicine. Furst currently serves as a physician at California State University, Chico’s Student Health Service.
