Captain of the 1967 Stanford squad, John Root was on the Dean’s List for three years, and he maintained a 3.48 GPA in economics. A member of the Delta Tau Delta social fraternity, he was chosen as the outstanding sophomore in 1965. A Second Team Academic All-America Selection, Root participated in the 1967 East-West Shrine Game. He rushed for 1,009 yards on 272 carries for twelve touchdowns in three seasons for the Cardinal. Root received his MBA from Stanford in 1973 and is currently an independent semiconductors professional in Tallahassee, Fla.
