A First Team Academic All-American in 1967, Mike Perrin was also honored with the Mike Flynn Award and Outstanding Student Award for academic achievement. He was a three-year letterwinner for the Longhorns and started the program-record 30 game win streak during his senior season. Following a 0-1-1 start, Texas won their final nine games including a 36-13 win over Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl.  Perrin recorded 77 tackles, five interceptions and five fumble recoveries in three seasons.

He was a recipient of the Campus Crusade for Christ Athletes-in-Action Award. Perrin served as vice president of the Campus Executive Council and co-chairman of the Legislative Conference Committee of the Student Association. He received a B.A. in Mathematics in 1969 and a J.D. in 1971 from Texas. Perrin was a member of Phi Delta Phi and the Legal Eagles as a law student.

Perrin continues his involvement with The University of Texas as an active member of Texas Exes and the Law Alumni Association.  He served as the Law School Representative to the Council of the Texas Exes and as the president of the Texas School of Law Alumni Association. Perrin was appointed by the UT Board of Regents to the Council for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.  He has led fundraising campaigns for the Charles Alan Wright Chair in Federal Courts and "The Texas Campaign: An Investment in Students" at the Law School.

A Partner in the law firm of Bailey Perrin Bailey, he is the former Managing Partner of the Houston office of King & Spalding.  Throughout his legal career, he has been a sole practitioner, partner in Fisher, Gallagher, Perrin & Lewis, and an associate at Vinson & Elkins.  He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers and the American Board of Trial Advocates.  Perrin is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Perrin has worked on political campaigns for candidates at the state and local level.  He is also involved in many civic organizations in the Houston area including the Rotary Club of Houston, the NFF Touchdown Club of Houston, the March of Dimes, the Greater Houston Partnership and the Texas Institute for Research and Rehabilitation.

Perrin returned to his college alma mater to assume leadership duties as the interim Men’s Athletics Director at The University of Texas in September 2015. University of Texas president Greg Fenves installed Perrin as Texas' permanent men's athletics director in December 2015, and he will serve in that role through the 2017-18 year. Among his accomplishments as athletics director, he hired head football coach Tom Herman.
