A member of the Dean’s List for five-of-six semesters, Jim Cooch compiled a 3.58 GPA in business administration. After hauling in 13 catches for 169 yards as a split end in 1968, he made the switch to corner back and recorded four interceptions in both his junior and senior seasons. In 1970, Cooch earned First Team Academic All-America and All-Big 8 honors. He was drafted in the seventh round (173^rd overall) of the 1971 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.
