Boasting a 3.34 GPA in architectural engineering, Bill Zapalac was a three-time Academic All-SWC and two-time Academic All-America selection. Under College Football Hall of Fame head coach Darrell Royal, he helped the Longhorns to a 30-2-1 record, three SWC titles, two Cotton Bowl victories and a 1969 National Championship. Zapalac was a fourth round selection (84th overall pick) in the 1971 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He played for three years with the Jets (1971–73). He is currently president of Zapalac/Reed Construction in Austin, Texas.
