A 6-foot, 185-pound safety for Utah State, Dennis Ferguson was a defensive standout for the Aggies. Boasting a 3.88 GPA in political science, he was named Academic All-America in 1970. Ferguson graduated first in his class in officer candidate school at the Marine Corps training program and was named Utah State’s most outstanding junior in social studies. He served as chairman of the on-campus United Nations and attended the UN of Far West at Occidental College (Calif.).

Ferguson graduated from the University of Utah College of Law with a J.D. in 1975, where he was a Comment Editor for the Utah Law Review.  Following law school, he served a four year tour of active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps, working primarily as a judge advocate.  Since then, he has continued his military service in a variety of capacities, but primarily as a judge advocate in the Utah Army National Guard.  He retired from military service as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2003.

In 1979, Ferguson joined the Salt Lake City law firm of Snow, Christensen & Martineau where his practice focused on products liability, insurance defense and general litigation matters.  In 1991, he left to become one of the founding partners of Williams & Hunt, where his civil litigation practice has concentrated on medical malpractice defense and governmental entity defense.  He has also represented ski resorts.

Ferguson is a member of the Utah State Bar Association, the Salt Lake County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association, and is admitted to practice before all Utah state and federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.  He is a board member of the Salt Lake Legal Defenders Association and fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.  Ferguson has also received an AV Preeminent peer review rating, signifying the utmost standards of ethical and legal ability. He currently serves as a mediator and arbitrator for Ferguson Mediaton in Salt Lake City, Utah.
