Achieving a 3.4 GPA in engineering mechanics, Darryl Haas earned Academic All-America honors in 1971 and made it on the Dean’s List every semester. As a linebacker and the Falcons’ primary punter, he earned team MVP and defensive MVP honors in his senior season. Averaging more than 40 yards per punt in his career, Haas also received the Air Force Athletic Excellence Award.  In 1970, he recorded a career high 23 tackles in a 46-35 loss to Oregon. Air Force finished the 1970 season with a 9-3 record after a 34-13 loss to then-No. 4 Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl. Haas recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown to cut the Volunteers lead to 24-7. He also served as a cadet officer in the Wing of Cadets.
