A two-time First Team Academic All-American, Greg Marx compiled a 3.38 GPA in liberal arts at Notre Dame. A co-captain of College Football Hall of Fame head coach Ara Parseghian’s 1972 squad, he was named a unanimous All-American and finished second on the team in tackles (96). Marx was involved in the study-help program, assisting many minority students on and off the field. He also spoke at local churches and schools. Marx helped the Fighting Irish to a 9-3 record and an Orange Bowl appearance in 1972. Racking up 263 career tackles in South Bend, he played in the College All-Star Game and the Hula Bowl.

Marx was selected in the second round (39th overall) of the 1973 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons and appeared in 14 games during the 1973 season. He went on to earn his J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School in 1977, putting his law degree to work in both the banking and securities industries.
