A four-year starter at Ohio State under College Football Hall of Fame head coach Woody Hayes, Brian Baschnagel led the Buckeyes in receiving yards in 1974 (362) and 1975 (244). He helped Ohio State to a 40-5-1 record, four Big Ten titles, four Rose Bowl appearances and a Rose Bowl victory to cap off an undefeated 1973 campaign.

A co-captain of the 1975 team, Baschnagel joined Hall of Fame running back and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin in the backfield. Compiling a 3.3 GPA in finance, he was a two-time Academic All-American and Academic All-Big Ten selection. Baschnagel finished his career with 86 carries for 652 yards and six touchdowns along with 56 receptions for 794 yards and four touchdowns.

Baschnagel was selected in the third round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears and played eight seasons for the Bears as a wide receiver and a kickoff returner. In 129 games for Chicago, he caught 134 passes for 2,024 yards and nine touchdowns and returned 89 kicks for an average of 23.6 yards per return and one touchdown.

In 2012, he retired as the Vice President of Corporate Sales for North American Corporation in Glenview, Ill. In 2013, Baschnagel was inducted into the West Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
