A two-year letterman for Nebraska under College Football Hall of Fame head coach Tom Osborne, Thomas Heiser helped the Cornhuskers to a 19-5 record, a Big 8 title and a 13-10 victory in the 1974 Sugar Bowl. He carried the ball 28 times for 173 yards and a touchdown in his career. Compiling a 3.8 GPA as a pre-med student, Heiser was named a First Team Academic All-American and made the Dean’s List three times. He was active in service programs such as Y-Pals and Big Brothers.

After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he went on to do his residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He advanced his orthopedic and sports medicine skills further at the nationally recognized Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Inglewood, Calif., for Orthopedic Fellowship Training in Sports Medicine.

Heiser has been with Nebraska Orthopedic & Sports Medicine since its origin in April 1987. Due to an accident in the summer of 1990, he no longer works as an operating physician but continues to champion a career as an orthopedic physician, utilizing his exquisite diagnostic knowledge and experience in managing the care of his patients. Heiser also continues as one of the team physicians for the University of Nebraska, and assists with the athletic needs of numerous Lincoln high schools’ athletic programs.
