Captain of the 1977 Texas football team, Morgan Copeland Jr. won three varsity letters as a linebacker for the Longhorns, helping the team to an 11-1 record and a SWC title. The lone loss in 1977 came in the Cotton Bowl to Notre Dame, the eventual national champion. Compiling a 3.5 GPA in petroleum land management, he was on the Dean’s List six semesters. Copeland was active in the Silver Spurs Service Organization, the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

He graduated with honors from the University of Texas in 1978 and the University of Texas School of Law in 1981. Copeland is currently a partner with Copeland and Rice in Dallas. He is certified in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Copeland has been listed as one of The Best Lawyers in America since 2007 and as one of Thomson Reuters’ Texas Super Lawyers since 2003.
