Boasting a 3.96 GPA as a pre-med student at Notre Dame, guard Dave Vinson was named a First Team Academic All-American and received the Byron V. Kanaley Award as the school’s outstanding senior scholar-athlete. A two-year letterman, he helped the Fighting Irish to a 20-4 record, two bowl victories and a National Championship under College Football Hall of Fame head coach Dan Devine. Vinson was active in the Baptist Church, serving as a counselor at a summer camp and as a youth leader in the South Bend community. He earned his M.D. from Baylor University in 1981 and completed his residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Vinson is currently a family practice physician in Irving, Texas.
