A regular on the Dean’s List at Pittsburgh, defensive back Jeff Delaney compiled a 3.5 GPA as a pre-med student and was a two-time Academic All-American. The team leader in interceptions in 1975 (3) and 1978 (4), he recorded 16 total interceptions as a four-year starter for the Panthers, which ranks second in program history. Delaney helped Pitt to a 37-10-1 record, three bowl victories and the 1976 National Championship.  A co-captain of the 1978 squad, he was selected to play in the Senior and Hula Bowls.

Delaney was selected in the seventh round (190th overall) of the 1979 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He played in all 16 games of the 1980 season, posting two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Delaney played in seven games with Tampa Bay and Detroit in 1981 before playing two seasons with the Baltimore Colts.
