A three-year letterman at LSU under College Football Hall of Fame coach Charlie McClendon, Robert Dugas helped the Tigers to a 22-12-1 record and two bowl appearances. A First Team All-American in 1977, he was a two-time First-Team All-SEC selection and named the SEC’s most outstanding blocker in 1978. Dugas is a member of the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame. A First Team Academic All-American and two-time Academic All-SEC selection, Dugas maintained a 3.62 GPA in pre-med and made the Dean’s List five times. He was a member of Mu Sigma Rho, Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Epsilon Delta.

Dugas earned his M.D. from the LSU School of Medicine in 1983 and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Wisconsin.

Dugas joined Nebraska Orthopedic and Sports Medicine in 1990 and returned to Louisiana after spending 16 years in Lincoln. He spent eight years as the founder of The Baton Rouge Sports Medicine Clinic, and an instructor and assistant professor for the LSU Department of Orthopedics’ Resident Education Program and The Lafayette General/University Medical Center’s Director of Orthopedic Resident Education.

In 2014, Dugas returned to Nebraska Orthopedic and Sports Medicine to re-establish his orthopedic practice. He also serves as the Director of Orthopedic Sports Medicine for the University of Nebraska Athletic Department.
