A three-time member of the Dean’s List at Notre Dame, Joe Restic compiled a 3.37 GPA in pre-dentistry and was a two-time First Team Academic All-American. A four-year letterman at safety and punter, he helped the Fighting Irish to a 37-10 record, three bowl victories and the 1977 National Championship under College Football Hall of Fame head coach Dan Devine. In 1975, Restic ranked seventh nationally in punt average (43.7 yards). Notre Dame’s leader in interceptions from 1976-78, he ranks seventh in school history with 13. Restic holds the school record for single-game punt average (51.6) and ranks third in school history in career punts (209).

He joined the Notre Dame Monogram Club Board of Directors in 2000 before serving as the Club's secretary from 2004-05. Restic served as president from 2009-11 and is currently a member of the past presidents council.

Restic was selected in the 10th round (257th overall) of the 1979 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He played three seasons in the USFL for the Boston Breakers from 1983-85, recording 11 interceptions and 11 punts for 386 yards along with four sacks.

He received his doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 and received certification from the orthodontic residency program at The Oregon Health Sciences University in 1988. In 1983, Restic was inducted into the Mathew Cryer Honor Society, which recognizes the top 10 students at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He spent three years practicing in the Boston area before returning to Oregon to open his own orthodontic practice in Wilsonville in 1991.
