Robert Heckman established himself as a dominating force at left end for the University of Dayton from 1960-62. The 1962 team captain, who played at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, was named the program’s best all-around player for three-straight years. In 1961, Heckman won the Junior Class Trophy, and he twice received the Macbeth Scholar Athlete-Award for his excellence in maintaining the highest accumulative scholastic record for at least four semesters. He also excelled for the Flyers on the basketball court.

With a 3.58 GPA as a psychology major, Heckman ranked among the top 20 students at Dayton. He served as vice president of the student body, and he was active in many other class affairs. A member of the Dean’s List, Heckman graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in 1963.
