The first Academic All-American in UTSA history, Leonard represents the epitome of what it takes to become a scholar-athlete. The 2013 Conference USA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year becomes the second NFF National Scholar-Athlete in only the school’s fourth year playing football.

A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and two-time Academic All-Conference honoree, Leonard is the recipient of the Will & Mary Hathaway Honors Scholarship. Boasting a 3.99 GPA in physical education with a minor in business administration, the McKinney, Texas, native has been a member of the UTSA President’s List in seven of eight semesters.

The only player in Roadrunners history to start every game of his career, Leonard registered a team-leading 70 knockdown blocks, and he graded out at 82 percent in 2013 while under center for NFF National Scholar-Athlete Eric Soza. He was the key to an offensive unit that had not committed a holding penalty in 15 games entering the 2014 season.

An outstanding ambassador in the community, Leonard received the 2013 UTSA Golden Feather Award, given to UTSA students whose contributions epitomize student leadership. He wrote a blog for The Huffington Post that detailed UTSA’s second season of play in 2012, and he has been a guest speaker for 2013 UTSA Faculty Development Leadership, UTSA Leadership Now and various athletic banquets. He also served as an inspirational speaker at Nacogdoches High School and Callisburg Elementary School. He was a three-year volunteer and assistant emcee at the For The Kids Dance Marathon, and he volunteered for the Area 20 Special Olympics basketball tournament and Wounded Warrior Project.

Leonard is currently a physical education teacher and the varsity offensive line coach and assistant baseball coach at Memorial High School in San Antonio.
