Mike Sadler has carved out a spot in the Spartan history books as the first player in program annals to earn Academic All-America honors an astounding three times. The punter becomes Michigan State’s seventh NFF National Scholar-Athlete.

Sadler graduated from MSU in May 2013, and he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public policy. A two-time recipient of the MSU Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest GPA on the football team with a 3.97, Sadler’s accolades include being a three-time Academic All-District selection, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

Sadler has been the starting punter all four years of his career games as a Spartan. He currently ranks second in program history in punts (260), third in punting yards (10,978) and sixth in punting average (42.2). In 2013 he was named a First-Team All-American by ESPN.com, and he was a two-time First-Team All-Big Ten selection. As a junior, Sadler was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy award, which annually recognizes college football’s top punter. Last season, Sadler led the nation with 24 punts downed inside the 10, and he tied for second nationally with 33 punts downed inside the 20.

A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Sadler is an active member in his community. He has participated in the Murphy Elementary Reading Day as well as the annual MSU Great Dairy Adventure, which gave locals the opportunity to learn about farms and livestock. Sadler also took part in the High 5ive charity golf outing and the Varsity S Club golf outing, where he both volunteered and delivered a speech.
