Dave Elmendorf won many honors. In 1970, he was named All-America defensive back in football. He also was named Academic All-America and won a graduate scholarship from the National Football Foundation. In the spring of 1971, he was named an outfielder on the All-America baseball team and he graduated from Texas A&M with honors and a degree in economic studies. In addition to playing defensive back for Texas A&M in 1970, he returned 23 kickoffs for an average of 19.9 yards and returned 13 punts for an average of 10 yards. The Atlanta Braves tried to sign him to a baseball contract when he finished high school. He turned them down and enrolled at Texas A&M. After college, he played nine years of pro football with the Los Angeles Rams. He became a broadcaster on radio and TV, became a director of course acquisition for the American Golf Corporation, and in 1989 became general manager of Sugar Creek Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
